Electric longboards
Built from the deck up in middle school — motor mounts, drivetrain and the battery packs to feed them.
The first properly ambitious thing I built. Electric longboards, from the ground up — not a kit, not a conversion. Deck, motor mount, drive, electronics and the pack, worked out and made.
This is where I learned that the battery is the hard part. A pack that has to survive vibration, weather, and being ridden by a teenager forces you to take cell selection, welding, balancing and enclosure design seriously, and it is extremely obvious when you have got it wrong.
